Urban population share

Add

The share of the population living in areas each country's own statistical office classifies as urban.

Read urban population share against each country’s own urban definition. Cross-country levels are not perfectly comparable.

Urban boundaries are political and statistical constructs — not a physical density threshold shared worldwide.

Compare economies carefully: currencies, survey methods, and coverage years differ. A higher value is not automatically “better” for every indicator.

Latest available World Bank data

Every figure is the most recent annual value the World Bank has published for that economy. This is not a live or real-time feed: the World Bank revises its series on its own irregular schedule, and this page shows what our last refresh retrieved.
