Food-packaging suppliers and importers who already have a test summary and need to see if the summary is complete.

Verified dates

Regulation (EU) 2025/40 applies from 2026-08-12. Article 5(5) restricts PFAS in food-contact packaging from 2026-08-12 at 25 ppb for any targeted PFAS, 250 ppb for the sum of targeted PFAS, and 50 ppm including polymeric PFAS. Total fluorine above 50 mg/kg needs proof of PFAS or non-PFAS fluorine. Harmonised sorting marks start no earlier than 2028-08-12, or 24 months after the implementing act, whichever is later: dependent on implementing act. Reusable-packaging labels start no earlier than 2029-02-12, also dependent on implementing act. Recycled-content minimums and reuse percentages use 2030-01-01 or a later act, and are not collapsed into 2026-08-12.

25 ppb targeted, 250 ppb for the sum, and 50 ppm including polymeric PFAS. Fluorine above 50 mg/kg needs an identification of PFAS or non-PFAS.

Are raw results stored?

No.

Does stock placed before 2026-08-12 have to be withdrawn?

Commission Notice C/2026/3084 says packaging placed before that date may remain. Later placing must meet the limits.

Is there a harmonised test method?

The notice says there is no single EU method yet. Use the category, then a specialist for the method.
