Field timing

Battery Passport Field Applicability Checker

Sort one data field by whether it is required on 18 February 2027, only under a selected condition, or not yet because a separate obligation applies later.

What this checker does

This page answers a narrow timing question: for one field and one battery category, is the field treated as required from 2027-02-18, only when a condition is met, not yet required, outside the battery passport categories, or still needing review? It does not judge whether a company is ready to operate a battery passport.

Who should use it

Product, quality, and DPP teams can use it when they are building a field dictionary for an LMT battery, an industrial battery above 2 kWh, or an EV battery. Use the separate readiness checker for identifiers, QR codes, and operating evidence.

How it works

Choose a closed battery category, a market or service date, one field category, whether the field is technically relevant, and whether any separate underlying obligation is already applicable. The screen returns one bounded status. Unknown field conditions stay on review.

How to read the result

Required from 2027-02-18 means the selected field is on the current ruleset for an in-scope battery on or after that date. Conditionally required means a technical condition makes the field not applicable, or a separate obligation was marked applicable. Not yet required means the date is earlier, or carbon footprint, recycled content, or responsible sourcing still depend on an obligation that is not applicable. Review required means the ruleset does not encode the missing condition.

Official sources

The links below are the regulation text used for Article 77 and Annex XIII, plus the Commission batteries digital product passport page already cited by the published Battery Passport article. A Commission FAQ URL is not encoded until it is in the official source catalog.

Limitations

This is an operational screening tool, not legal advice. Commission guidance or implementing acts may change applicability. Verify the latest EU rules before a compliance decision. The screen does not certify a battery passport and does not replace the readiness checker.

How to use the result

Separate timing from readiness

A required field is not a completed data model. Keep identifier, QR, and operating evidence in the readiness checker.

Do not force a yes

If technical relevance or a separate obligation date is unknown, leave the result on review instead of treating the field as required.

Review when guidance changes

A later Commission FAQ or implementing act does not update this screen by itself. It triggers a ruleset review.

Questions

Is every Annex XIII field mandatory on 2027-02-18?

No. This screen does not treat carbon footprint, recycled content, or responsible sourcing as required on that date unless the separate underlying obligation is marked applicable.

How is this different from the readiness checker?

The readiness checker looks at operating evidence such as identifiers and access. This checker looks only at whether one field is required, conditional, later, or outside scope.

What happens before 2027-02-18?

An in-scope battery receives not yet required, with 2027-02-18 shown as the later application date.

Can an unknown field become required?

No. A field category or condition that is not encoded stays on review.
